How to get there
From central Athens, the airport is accessed via the Attiki Odos toll road (A6), which circles around the north and east of the city.
The airport is linked to Athens Central Railway Station (also known as Larissa Station) and the port of Piraeus by the suburban rail system. Metro services also operate between the airport and the city (journey time: 45 minutes; fare: €8). Detailed service information is available from the Athens Urban Transport Organisation (tel: 210 820 0999; www.oasa.gr).
Several bus routes connect the airport with central Athens (journey time: 65 minutes; fare: €5) and Piraeus (journey time: 90 minutes; fare: €5), 24 hours a day. Some services also connect with the Metro.
Two KTEL (tel: 210 880 8081; www.ktelattikis.gr – in Greek only) express services run between the airport, Markopoulo and Rafina. Other KTEL services also run to Lavrion, Kalyvia and Keratea. Coaches depart from the arrivals level of the Main Terminal, near door 5.
Taxis leave from outside the arrivals level of the Main Terminal building. The fare to the city centre is €35-40, and the journey time is anywhere between 40 and 60 minutes, depending on traffic.
There are spaces for around 7,100 cars at the airport. Short-term P1 and P2 car parks are located just outside the arrivals halls of the Main Terminal – parking is free for 20 minutes in these short-term car parks. The long-term P3 car park is connected to the Main Terminal building via a courtesy shuttle bus and by a pedestrian bridge over the main road. A valet parking service is also available (tel: 210 353 4260).
