How to get there
The airport is directly linked to the main Berlin – Munich Autobahn (A9) and the A14 which links Dresden to Hanover via Magdeburg. From central Leipzig head north on National Route 6 – the airport is clearly signposted. From Halle, take the same road south out of the city.
The airport railway station is beneath the terminal. Trains into Leipzig (tel: (391) 536 310; www.starker-nahverkehr.de) take 20-30 minutes, and the single fare is €4.20. From Halle, journey time is 11 minutes, and the fare also €4.20. From Leipzig Hauptbahnhof inter-city services connect to destinations all over Germany and beyond – some long-distance services also stop at the airport.
As the train is so quick and convenient, this is the recommended public transport option. The airport does, however, operate a pre-bookable minibus shuttle (tel: 03724 131366; www.fritzsche-shuttle.de) service which runs to and from locations within a 45 km (30 mile) radius.
Taxis are available immediately outside Terminal B. Travel time to leipzig is about 40 minutes, and to Halle a little less. Fares start from around €35.
The airport offers around 5,000 parking spaces (tel: (341) 224 1247), 2,000 of these are in a multi-story block. Short-stay and pick-up/drop-off parking is located outside Terminal B, while a low-cost parking area is about 15 minutes’ walk away (no shuttle bus operates to this one). There is, however, a free shuttle to and from the regular long-stay car parks.
