Facilities & infrastructure

Money

Currency exchanges, banks and ATMs are all available. The baggage reclaim area in Building B, in the International Departures Hall in Terminal 1 is just one location where currency exchanges can be found.

Money change machines are located on both the north and south side of the check-in area of departures level (3F) in Terminal 2.

Communications

Wi-Fi Internet access is available in both terminals. Many public telephones work with an IC card, a prepaid telephone card. The telephones can be found, among other places, in the check-in area on level 3F in Terminal 1, and on level M2 (Departures) in Terminal 2, where the necessary IC cards can also be purchased. Mobile charging stations are situated on level M2 (Departures) in Terminal 2.

Food

Both terminals have an extensive selection of restaurants, bars and cafés. The Departures Hall and waiting area in Terminal 1, and the Departures level and check-in area in Terminal 2 offer the widest choice.

Shopping

Stores selling travel essentials and gifts, clothing and souvenirs, as well as duty-free shops can be found in both terminals. The Departures Hall and waiting area in Terminal 1, and the Departures level and check-in area in Terminal 2 offer the greatest variety.

Luggage

Baggage carts are available in the Arrivals and Departures Halls. There is also a Lost & Found office in each terminal (in Terminal 1 near Gate 1, Tel: +86-21/51 14 20 71; in Terminal 2 at the baggage storage facility and at Island E,  East Traffic Center, 1F; Tel: +86-21/22 38 10 86). The airport clinic has offices in both terminal buildings (in Terminal 1, near the security checkpoints in the Departures area on level 2F; in Terminal 2, among others, between Gates 47 and 48 in M2). Travelers with children will appreciate the free stroller lending service (Terminal 3, M2) and, if they have a lengthy layover, likely enjoy a visit to the Children Gardens (Terminal 2, M2, Gates 25 and 71), where the children can play and adults can take advantage of tourist information and Wi-Fi Internet access.

Conference & Business

Business centers in both terminal buildings provide office facilities, such as photocopiers and speedy Internet access (in Terminal 1 in waiting area A5 in the Departures Hall, among others, and in Terminal 2 in M2). A number of lounges in both terminal buildings provide small conference rooms, while hotels, including the Shanghai International Airport Hotel (Tel: +86-21/62 68 88 66, siah.com) offer conference facilities and other office services.

    Transfer between terminals

The terminal buildings are situated on both sides of the runways. A shuttle service also operates between the terminals (roughly every 15 minutes; stops in Terminal 1, south side, at Gate 6, Departures Hall, and in Terminal 2, north side, at Gate 1, Arrivals Hall).

Transfer between Hongqiao International Airport and Pudong International Airport

Hongqiao International Airport is now almost only used for domestic Chinese connections and services to Korea and Japan, among others. Other international flights are almost exclusively handled at Pudong International Airport. Shanghai’s two airports are roughly 50 kilometers apart. The most convenient modes of transportation to make the transfer are Line 2 of the city’s Metro network and the Maglev train, for both of which it is wise to plan a good 90 minutes. There is also a shuttle service (Line 1), with buses running every 20 minutes between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. (Tel: +86-21/68 34 66 12). The buses also take roughly 90 minutes for the journey (depending on the traffic).

    Information

The Inquiry Center providing information about the airport and flights, is located in the check-in hall of Building B of Terminal 1 (Tel: +86-21/96 990). In Terminal 2, the information counters can be found in area 3F of the Check-in Hall and in area 1F of the Arrivals Hall.
