How to get there
Starting from Orlov Most (the bridge at the centre of the city), drive eastwards towards Tsarigradsko Shose Boulevard and follow signs first to Hristofor Columb Boulevard and then to the airport.
Sofia Public Transport Company (SKGT) (tel: 0700 13233; www.sofiatraffic.bg) operates two buses serving Sofia Airport. Both run between the airport’s two terminals and the university in the city centre, albeit following different routes (journey time: 30 minutes; fare: лв1). The buses operate from 0500 to 2300, with regular services during the day. Tickets, which should be validated using machines on the bus, are available from the newsagents in both terminals.
Several of the bigger hotels provide shuttle buses to or from the airport.
A new metro line runs between the centre and terminal 2 from 0500 until midnight (fare: 0,50 Euro, metrosofia.com). To arrive at terminal 1 take the bus that leaves right next to the building, it is free of charge.
The best way to ensure a reliable taxi service to the city centre is to book in advance. OK Supertrans (tel: (02) 973 2121; oktaxi.net) has a desk in the arrivals hall. The metered fare to central Sofia is around лв10 – it is advisable to check that the meter is running.
A large car park with a capacity of 400 spaces is located in front of Terminal 1. A multi-storey parking area provides 800 parking spaces – this is linked to the departures area of Terminal 2. These two car parks, which offer short- and long-term parking options, are open 24 hours a day. Further parking information is available from the airport parking authorities (tel: (02) 937 3589).
