Road access to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is provided by five motorways connected to Bangkok’s outer ring road. The main access road (and the most convenient route) from the airport site is the elevated roadway going north from the passenger terminal to Motorway 7, which connects Bangkok and Chonburi. Take this toll road westwards to central Bangkok.
Airport Rail Link (tel: (02) 308 5600; www.srtet.co.th) runs 24-hour services from a station immediately beneath the terminal building. Fast services include the Makkasan Express route that stops only at Makkasan Station (journey time: 15 minutes; fare: ฿90) en route to the city centre, and the Phaya Thai Express Line, which goes non-stop to Phaya Thai Station in the city centre (journey time: 18 minutes; fare: ฿90).
A slower city train, which stops at seven stations and takes a little under 30 minutes, is also operational (fare: ฿45).
Airport Express (tel: (02) 134 4097) bus services stop outside the international arrivals area, offering four routes into Bangkok. The journey time to the city centre averages at around 45 minutes and the fare is about ฿34.
Local buses run from the Public Transport Centre, which is reached via a shuttle bus. Routes connect to various destinations in Bangkok.
Shuttle buses (tel: (02) 134 0171) operate fixed routes at regular intervals to a number of destinations in and around the city.
Taxis are available outside Arrivals. It is advisable to book taxis at the service counters. There is a fee of ฿50 to be paid to the driver in addition to the fare, which averages at about ฿300-350.
