ATMs and bureaux de change are located in all terminals. A bank is situated in Terminal C.


Paid-for Wi-Fi internet access is available in most public areas of Newark Liberty International Airport. For those without wireless-enabled devices, there are fixed internet connections at various locations.


There is a wide variety of places to eat and drink in all terminals. Options include fast-food outlets, sushi bars, American-style restaurants and pubs.


Numerous newsagents, gift shops and speciality outlets – ranging from luxury fashion boutiques to children’s toy retailers – are available in all terminals. Duty-free shopping can be found in the departure gate concourses of each terminal.


Luggage trolleys can be collected in the baggage reclaim areas of all terminals. Left-luggage facilities are located in Terminal C. A lost property service (tel: (973) 961 6243) is on hand to help with lost items.


Other facilities at Newark Liberty International Airport include a medical centre (tel: (973) 643 8383) near bus stop 4 on the long-term parking shuttle bus route, baby change facilities, shoeshine booths, and a chapel in Terminal C.

Conference & Business

A comprehensive range of business services – including fax, computer, photocopying and courier facilities – are available in all terminals. Conference facilities are only offered via airline and club lounges, although the on-site Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott (tel: (973) 623 0006; houses 26 meeting rooms and a fully equipped business centre.

    There are TDD telephones, ramps, lifts and wheelchair-accessible toilets throughout the terminals, while electric carts are available on request from the airlines for transportation to the gates. Accessible cars can be hired from Avis and Hertz. There are also reserved disabled car parking spaces (tel: (973) 961 6421).

    Public Transport

    New York’s extensive subway system is the largest in the world and is run by the city under the auspices of the MTA (, which also takes care of the excellent bus system. Tickets can be purchased from stations and news agents, with rechargeable Metrocards the best bet for getting around. The subway runs 24 hours a day, although services become sparse in the small hours.


    New York’s famous yellow cabs are always available on Manhattan’s main streets. Don’t be timid and stay on the sidewalk when hailing one. Chances are a bold local will be in the road taking your ride. Tipping is essential.

    Finding a cheap hotel room in New York is tougher than winning the lottery.

    The city has plenty of superb top-end options though, with a growing number of decent, cheaper alternatives.

    The St. Regis New York is indisputably one of the most exclusive hotels in the world. From the marble floor in the lobby, to silk-wallpapered rooms and glittering crystal chandeliers, luxury is writ large at the St. Regis. In line with the hotel’s motto, which was also that of its founder, John Jacob Astor IV, guests should feel they have been personally invited into the Astors’ home. The building dates from 1904 but has recently been fully refurbished. Its central location on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 55th Street in Manhattan also makes the hotel an excellent choice for visitors wishing to explore the city’s many attractions.
