How to get there
Driving Directions
From Hong Kong Island, follow road signs to Western Harbour Tunnel. Once out of the tunnel, drive along the West Kowloon Expressway; follow airport road signs and cross the Tsing Ma Bridge to the airport island, Chek Lap Kok. Then continue along North Lantau Highway to reach the airport.
Rail
The MTR Corporation Airport Express Line (tel: 2881 8888; www.mtr.com.hk) operates trains that leave the airport for downtown Hong Kong (journey time: 24 minutes; fare: HK$100) stopping at Hong Kong and Kowloon stations, where check-in and free porter services are available. The station is located in the Ground Transportation Centre between the passenger terminals.
Bus
Public buses depart from the Ground Transportation Centre and from near to car parks 1 and 2. Buses are operated by Citybus (tel: 2873 0818; www.nwstbus.com.hk), KMB (tel: 2745 4466; www.kmb.com.hk) and New Lantao Bus Company (tel: 2984 9848; www.newlantaobus.com). Night buses take over after midnight.
There are 12 Airbus routes to various parts of Hong Kong, including North Point Ferry Pier, Hung Hom station and Lam Tin station. Frequent external bus services are also available.
A 24-hour Discovery Bay Airbus service, operated by DB Transit (tel: 2987 0208) connects the airport to Discovery Bay.
Shuttle
Six airport shuttle routes connect to various points in Hong Kong.
Coach
Cross-border coaches, run by five operators, offer regular services between the airport and major Guangdong cities in mainland China. A valid travel document for entry to mainland China is required.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available from the Ground Transportation Centre. There are separate queues for various services: urban taxis are red and serve almost all destinations in the city; New Territories taxis are green; and Lantau taxis are blue. Taxis to Hong Kong Island or Kowloon take about an hour (subject to traffic) and cost around HK$300.
Car Parking
There is one undercover multi-storey car park (car park 4) and three open-air ground level car parks (car parks 1, 2, and 3) at the airport. Car parks 1, 2 and 4 are short-term, while the long-term car park 3 is currently closed for construction work – part of car park 2 is designated for long-term use during this work. Complimentary 30-minute parking is available in car parks 1 and 4. Further parking information is available from the airport parking office (tel: 2183 4360).
