How to get there
Hamburg Airport is situated between ring roads R2 and R3 on the B433, and is easily accessible and well-signposted from central Hamburg. The A7 Autobahn provides a connection to the airport at exit 23, Schnelsen-Nord.
The S-Bahn route S1 (tel: (040) 3918 4385; www.s-bahn-hamburg.de) links Hamburg Airport directly with Hamburg’s central station (journey time: 25 minutes; fare: €3). The station is directly in front of the terminals.
Numerous HVV (tel: (040) 19449; www.hvv.de) bus services run to the city centre and other points around Hamburg (fare: €3). The night bus 606 stops at the main railway station. Shuttle services to and from Bremen and several destinations in the region are also available.
Taxi services to central Hamburg are readily available outside both terminals. The journey time and fare varies according to the time of day, but prices generally start at around €25. Official taxis are cream in colour. Pre-booking is available – links to numerous taxi companies can be found on the airport website, including Hansa Taxi (tel: (040 211 211; www.taxi211211.de), Taxi Hamburg (tel: (04) 666 666; www.taxihamburg.de) and Taxiruf (tel: (04) 441 011; www.autoruf.de).
Parking at Hamburg Airport is available at six car parks, four of which offer short- and long-term rates close to the terminals; two are further away, cheaper, and are aimed at leisure travellers. Parking can be booked via the airport website, otherwise an ‘intelligent’ indicator system guides drivers to the nearest suitable available spaces. Valet parking is available (tel: (040) 5131 9363).
